No more IT firewall problems with internet relay
18 May 2012
The NRS has released a new version of internet relay with some important improvements for users.
Making calls from behind IT firewalls
Some users, often employees of large organisations, have difficulty making internet relay calls because the organisation’s IT security policies inadvertently stop the user from connecting with the internet relay call page.
Because the new version of internet relay uses different software (Ajax rather than Java), most users behind IT firewalls should now be able to connect to internet relay in the same way they connect to any website.
You don’t have to do anything different – just make your internet relay call as usual either through the NRS website or through instant messaging.
Note that, while there shouldn’t be any technical problems with the new call page, if your organisation doesn’t allow you to browse the Web or to use instant messaging, you will still have a problem making internet relay calls. You can either contact your IT administrator to request access to the internet relay call page or contact our Helpdesk who can approach your IT administrator on your behalf.
No longer any need for Java
Some users have had problems with internet relay in the past due to the need to load or update Java software. The new version of internet relay has dispensed with Java so users will not need to worry about it any longer.
