Call costs

pic of NRS user with Superprint TTY

You just pay your regular data or phone costs to make your call through the NRS.

  • If you are making a call using the internet or through the NRS app, calls are free – how you are charged for your data usage will depend on your internet or phone plan.
  • If you are using a mobile phone, the cost will depend on your phone plan – most mobile calls are time-charged. SMS costs will also depend on your plan.
  • Calls using a landline phone will cost about the same as a local call – for calls anywhere in Australia.
  • For overseas or premium rate (eg 1900) calls you will need to open a National Relay Service account or use a pre-paid phone card bought in Australia.

To find out more about the cost of TTYs and subsidised disability equipment schemes contact the Helpdesk.

The tables below show the charges that apply to different call types depending on how you make the call.
